This experience began in 2018 when our school applied for an ETA from AMINEF, funded by FULBRIGHT. She is Sarah Wozniak, an American girl, a descendant of Indonesian who lived in Surabaya before moving to the United States in 1960's, who became our ETA for 10 months, beginning from July 22 2018, to May 20th, 2019.
She informed us that the US embassy was opening an application for the 2109 SEAYLP. There were many students and some teachers applied for this program, including me. We sorted 20 out of 125 students were eligible to apply for this program, so we informed this application even more detail to them.
And finally, in December 2019, two students and two teachers were invited to have an interview in IAIN Walisanga Semarang. I didn't dare to say that I would go, because I knew an interviewee, who was my roommate in ETA training in Bogor. she is Ms. Atiullah. she went to Japan for a year in the past, I believe that she would be the one chosen to go to the USA.
But I was wrong.
February 1st, 2019, I got a cal from the US Embassy, telling that I would be the 'teacher' going for this program. I felt like melting ice cream listening to this news. The first person I passed the news was Sarah, she was as happy as I was. I was super happy that I was speechless telling this news to my principal. He congratulated me and permitted me to do any preparation for this program.
Oh, God.
It was something I didn't even dare to dream of.
I had a dream to go abroad, but I have never dared to make it into real.
But this opportunity came when I turn to be 40.
What a life!
I thank God for this opportunity.
Through Sarah, through my principal, I could go to the so-called 'dream land".
United States of America!
